Chicago Bears mascot Staley the Bear made an appearance at O’Donnell Elementary on February 21, as part of last year’s ‘Touchdown School’ monetary award from Fuel up to Play 60 (FUTP60).
Staley led students through low hurdles in the gym, which are part of the fitness equipment grant O’Donnell was awarded through FUTP60.
Students then were treated to a yogurt bar served by the FUTP60 Student Leader Team. This is funded by a $2400 grant from FUTP60. The students chose the ‘play’ option of Farm to School and Snack Smarter. The yogurt bar combines both ‘plays’ for the student body and staff.
With their Dairy sample in hand, the 3rd through 5th grade visited with Beth Engel of Engel’s Dairy Farm, for a question and answer session about her dairy farming experience. Suzi Meyers, Ag Literacy Coordinator from the Kane County Farm Bureau, accompanied Mrs. Engel.
Thanks to the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, which creates opportunities and experiences in health and wellness, in fun and engaging ways. It also allows students to become leaders for their school and community. Funding was provided by the NFL, Dairy Farmers and the USDA.
