Honoring a Hometown Hero: Officer Gerardo ChaidezHonrando a un Héroe Local: Oficial Gerardo Chaidez

At the August 28, 2025, Board of Education meeting, East Aurora School District 131 had the privilege of recognizing Officer Gerardo Chaidez of the Aurora Police Department, an East Aurora alumnus and true hometown hero.

Officer Chaidez was honored for his extraordinary courage and life-saving actions in two separate incidents. In the first, he intervened to stop a dog attack on a young girl in Aurora, preventing serious injury. In another, while on vacation in Texas, he provided critical aid at the scene of a motorcycle crash. In both moments, his quick response and bravery saved lives.

Now, his story has come full circle. Officer Chaidez has returned to East Aurora High School as a School Resource Officer, serving the next generation of Tomcats in the very building where his own journey began.

East Aurora School District 131 is proud to celebrate Officer Chaidez for his service, heroism, and the example he sets for our students and community.

En la reunión de la Junta de Educación del 28 de agosto de 2025, el Distrito Escolar 131 de East Aurora tuvo el privilegio de reconocer al Oficial Gerardo Chaidez del Departamento de Policía de Aurora, exalumno de East Aurora y verdadero héroe de nuestra comunidad.

El Oficial Chaidez fue homenajeado por su extraordinario valor y acciones que salvaron vidas en dos incidentes distintos. En el primero, intervino para detener el ataque de un perro contra una niña en Aurora, evitando que sufriera heridas graves. En otro caso, mientras estaba de vacaciones en Texas, brindó ayuda crítica en la escena de un accidente de motocicleta. En ambos momentos, su rápida respuesta y valentía salvaron vidas.

Ahora, su historia ha cerrado un círculo completo. El Oficial Chaidez ha regresado a la Escuela Secundaria East Aurora como Oficial de Recursos Escolares, sirviendo a la nueva generación de Tomcats en el mismo edificio donde comenzó su propio camino.

El Distrito Escolar 131 de East Aurora se enorgullece de celebrar al Oficial Chaidez por su servicio, heroísmo y el ejemplo que representa para nuestros estudiantes y nuestra comunidad.
